Reducing comfort to the minimum in order to enlarge mobility to the maximum, Penadés encourage us to reconsider our ideas of contemporary furniture and give them new meanings in a more ephemeral context.
Jorge Penadés is currently investigating new possibilities of temporary furniture in order to create a collection of pieces within the same principle, understanding furniture as itinerant objects rather than static.

With the project Tense, Swiss design studio Panter&Tourron created five types of neo-nomadic furniture that are easily transportable, tool-free and use tension as the sole construction system.
In addition to easy to assemble and disassemble, the furniture is also designed to be easy to produce, avoiding heavy machinery or moulding. Flexible fabrication techniques have been used where possible, as they can be sourced locally and scaled globally by connecting digital artisans and small-scale manufactures.

Over the past decade, the new opportunities of communication and participation represented by the Internet and Web 2.0 have taken DIY-cultural hype to a renewed fever-pitch. DIY portals, communities, and blogs are booming, and designers, programmers, constructors of machines, and users are busy developing new Internet-capable modalities of designing and producing furniture and furnishing items.
In this sense, Oscar is familiar with the concept of \\u201Cnomadic furniture\\u201D, objects that remain constant instead of homes or static spaces. His pleated hat inspired lamp, Lampada Cappello catapulted Oscar onto the art and design scene, as well as his work with dellostudio which he owns with friend and collaborator Charlotte Taylor.

As for cardboard furniture, I've been thinking about purchasing the plans for this play kitchen. E still asks for a wooden play kitchen for each birthdays and Christmas (Yeah, yeah. I know. The cabinet maker's son....) but frankly, with the boys at age 5 and 8 now, I can't see spending a whole lot of time or money on either a homemade one or a purchased one. Of course, I still want the real thing but that isn't really reasonable. I'm thinking that he also might enjoy helping with the assembly of a cardboard one. Then, when he tires of it, it can be taken apart and stored flat and eventually recycled or used as mulch in the garden or fire starter in the woodstove rather than taking up precious space, and money.
this exhibition addresses the DIY movement as a contemporary phenomenon, tracing its origins and development until today. Raumlabor has conceived the entire space as one big workshop space, emphasizing the role of the everyday man in this chapter of design history while simultaneously inciting visitors to participate and build their own furniture.
Basically we can buy, build or inherit furniture. There are hundreds of books about design and building of traditional furniture building. This book is a catalog of furniture that can be built, bought or adapt that is lightweight and easily movable in the knocked-down, deflate, and folded it away fashion. Also, all of it can be recycled or thrown away in a ecologically responsible way. How cool is that
Workshop participants first defined how the residential space would be used. To do this, they assessed the basic needs of those living in this temporary housing unit as well as aspects of daily life that are less fundamental but could contribute to the domestic feeling of the spaces. Having done this, we organised the spaces and established basic furniture typologies that continued to be developed to outfit this residential space (surfaces and multipurpose elements for relaxation, storage structures, seats, lighting, etc.).
At the intersection of these needs/uses/principles, the furniture typologies and the raw materials available, a series of prototypes was collaboratively designed and constructed. Besides being multifunctional, these prototypes are objects that encourage an open dialogue about reuse, the value of consumer goods, the life cycle of objects, the exchange/transmission of knowledge and Open Design.
Inspired by her own nomadic lifestyle, Argentinian architect and designer Natalia Geci created a collection of modular freestanding pieces that can fulfill all of your household needs. The LYNKO furniture system is for those of us that find ourselves in less than permanent situations while still needing all the modern conveniences of life. After years of tossing out furniture when it was time to move, Geci looked for a configurable solution that produced less waste and could easily work in any household.
Natalia Geci has launched the latest in her nomadic furniture collection, LYNKO - a modular freestanding system designed to transform and created to fill the needs of a contemporary wayfaring lifestyle.
The current economic climate has developed an increasingly transient culture. With the idea of a home becoming less fixed and stable, Geci started to rethink what home meant to her and the relationship she had with her possessions. Years of accumulating furniture to then disregard it left Geci searching for a portable furniture solution that could integrate into any household, discouraging the throwaway culture and exploring the changing notions of the modern day home.
\"My own itinerant family life led me to create the LYNKO system. After years of living in a multitude of environments from a big country house in a rural village to a small flat in London and even five of us living in a shipping container, I was buying furniture knowing I would dispose of it,\" Geci explained. \"With the continuous upheaval in my life, I started to question exactly what I needed and I decided that I needed to create something light, flexible and easily tailored to accompany us on our adventures.\"
Victor Papanek, along with co-author and fellow designer James Hennessey, released Nomadic Furniture in 1973. Their book shared with readers \"How to build and where to buy lightweight furniture that folds, inflates, knocks down, stacks, or is disposable and can be recycled,\" and was loaded with diagrams of DIY plans to that effect.
This thesis explores solutions to the problem young adults face when relocating on a budget. The target age range of 20 to 30 year-olds face multiple hurdles when it comes to their nomadic existence. On average this age group relocates once per year; they are a consumerist population often defining themselves by their possessions; and are often under tight budget constraints. Since nomadic cultures to the current day, relocation has allowed individuals access to better things and the essentials of life. The difference being that nomadic cultures had fewer possessions which were designed for easy packing and carrying, where as current young professionals have far more possessions, most of which are designed for a sedentary lifestyle. The goal of the thesis is to create a design solution which makes moving faster, less complicated, more affordable, stylish and appealing to young adults. 59ce067264
